Traditional facelifts usually only elevate and reposition the skin and the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS). The Deep Plane Facelift addresses the tissues deep to the SMAS that are the true causes of facial aging. A deep plane facelift addresses the deeper tissues that cause facial aging by repositioning, tightening, or releasing the underlying muscles, fat pads, and retaining ligaments than traditional facelifts do not address to achieve a more successful rejuvenation of the face. You will go under general anesthesia for approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. The incisions are created by beveling the blade to save all the hair follicles, thereby reducing the risk for alopecia (hair loss), and allow for imperceptible scars in the hairline and around the ears. There is a small incision under the chin for the deep plane neck lift portion. Using these incisions, Dr. Admire will elevate, reposition and tighten the underlying deeper tissues, including the muscles and fat pads deep to the SMAS. The buccal fat pad may be partially removed.
He will then place permanent suspension sutures to elevate and resuspend the SMAS in a superior vector. Then the key retaining ligaments are released to elevate and reposition the skin independently. The incisions are then closed free of tension. The deep plane neck lift in Scottsdale elevates, repositions, and partially removes the muscles, fat, and submandibular glands. The platysma is then tightened with a combination of permanent and dissolvable sutures. A drain is placed in the neck and removed in 2-4 days.

The skin and underlying soft tissues sag in the face medially from a landmark that begins at the angle of the jaw and ends at the lateral corner of the eye. The skin lateral to this line stays relatively firm by adhering to the parotid gland just in front of the ear.
The deep plane facelift addresses a more medial and deeper area than any other facelift, extending towards the mouth and jowls. Therefore, the most aged areas of the face - the deep nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jowls are targeted, resulting in more significant, rejuvenated changes.
The deep plane facelift releases four ligaments that anchor muscle and connective tissue to the skin. Releasing these ligaments allows the deeper tissues of the face to be fully released and resuspended superiorly, resulting in a dramatic, but the natural improvement that is uniquely different from any other facelift. The release of the ligaments is an extended technique of the deep plane facelift.
A deep plane facelift allows for a shorter recovery time because there is less skin and SMAS trauma during this procedure compared to traditional facelifts. The permanent sutures and deeper suspension does not rely on skin stretch or over-pulling of the skin. The facial and neck wrap placed during surgery is removed 2-3 days later. Most patients can return to work or light activity in about 1-2 weeks. Full activity can be expected in 3-4 weeks.
